Summer in France

We went to France again this summer. Same apartment, same old: Bordeaux, the ocean, the sky, the quiet, the wine, and my knitting. And again we loved it. Moving to France is still high up on my wish list. If only we could …

Summer HäkelmonsterFeels like I am stuck in some sort of a time warp. After all, I wrote pretty much the same last summer.

Summer HäkelmonsterHowever, this year I like to add that two weeks were clearly not enough. I was barely ready to start reading the books I had taken along when time was up and we had to go back.

Summer HäkelmonsterWhile there, I knit another down to the river shawl (the first is on my German blog) that I need to block before showing it to you. And quiet a lot of little leaves. Again, we would attach them everywhere – trying hard to find matching places.

Now we’re back. (Sigh …). And I had to go back to work the next day. (Sigh …). But at least I have been able to charge my batteries and finally finish some projects.

Like the baby blue baby cardigan:

Baby Cardigan HäkelmonsterI had finished it a long time ago but never managed to find matching buttons, let alone stitch them on. But there they were: on the fleamarket. And they are perfect!

Pretty in Pink

It has been a while since I finished the pink scarf. However, I am not too happy with it.

In short: Easy pattern, lovely yarn, beautiful color – not my style. Which is okay. After all, I have made it for a friend and she chose the pattern, so I am pretty sure she likes it and that is all that matters.

pink scarf Drops häkelmonsterIt was all about making her happy and that scarf will definitly look good on her with her long black hair.

I have changed the wave edging to something less artsy. All else is accoring to pattern.

Spring is here” it is called – summer in my garden suits it just as well.

Turn your face to the Sun

“Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you” is what the Maori say.

It’s what I thought last weekend when coming back to Berlin after spending the day at my parents’ house.

It was sad and not sad to be there. Both at the same time.

The blue sky says it is spring, yet it is too cold to actually be spring. Weird times.

However, times to move forward.

Easter Socks

I finished the socks. And guess what? It worked out fine with that one skein of Regia yarn. However, to make those legs a little longer I knit the cuffs in grey.

socks Regia HäkelmonsterThey fit, they are warm, they are perfect!

15°C / 60°F predicted for Sunday. Sounds like SPRING!

Maybe I should have started knitting socks a few weeks earlier …

Happy Easter to all of you!

Down To The River

I took three balls of beautiful Rowan Creative Focus Worsted to France and came back with another Down To The River. My second so far.

You may have seen the first one I made of Drops Alpaca. If not – this is it:

Down To The River HäkelmonsterIt turned out nice (I love the pink edging! It is the icing on the cake, an eye catcher) but quite a bit smaller than expected. I should really take a picture of someone wearing it to give you an idea of its actual size.

In fact, it is more of a shawlette than a shawl. So I started over with beautiful Rowan.

The yarn was a dream to work with. Woven in are bits and pieces of pale rose and grey, all else is – well – beige. A lot of beige. Beige with “grip”, beige that is soft. And all that beige turned out to be perfect to accentuate the yarn’s lovely stitch definition as well as the pattern’s clever construction.

Remember how enthusiastic I was about Rowan’s Fine Tweed when knitting the Skyggen wrap? Well, I am tempted to extend my enthusiasm to Rowan in general <3 So much fun to work with their yarns! Down To The River HäkelmonsterI took two pictures of the new shawl – one before and one after blocking. One in France and one back home. One next to the ocean, one in my backyard.

Down To The River HäkelmonsterWhat do you think? I enjoy reading your comments, please keep them coming!
